DARE TO WEAR BLACK AKOYA PEARLS

This week while we're on the subject of Black Pearls, I thought I'd spend some time showcasing one of the little known pearls: dyed Black Akoya.

Why you ask?

Well for one, Black Akoya pearls are VERY striking visually. Dyed Black Akoya present as an incredibly uniform Jet Black usually with Dark Midnight Blue or Greenish Black overtones and near-identical Luster appearance. These color-treated cultured pearls can really pack a dramatic punch and often resemble Onyx beads.

Let's take a dive in and explore how uniquely beautiful the Black Akoya pearl can be!

Black Akoya Pearls

Black Akoya pearl necklaces aren't usually featured when you search for a Black Pearl Necklace ... 99% of the time, you'll be staring at Tahitian pearls, and the less expensive Black Freshwater.

Finally after hours of looking hither and yon I decided to mostly just feature our own models wearing Black Akoya pearl jewelry, with some pictures I found around the web with some pretty interesting ideas on how to wear these bold and daring pearls in a chic, modern way.

Black Akoya Pearl Earrings

A classic pearl stud earring but with a striking twist: Black Akoya Pearl Stud Earrings! These studs are also a huge savings over Tahitian pearl earrings!

To recreate this look, I'd recommend the 7.0-7.5mm Black Akoya Stud Earrings.

Black Akoya Pearl Necklace

A simple single strand of Black Akoya pearls can add a splash of eye-catching drama to any outfit. The Midnight Blue-Black colors are incredibly uniform in appearance, making for an edgy, urban take on a classic pearl necklace.

Black Akoya Pearl Necklace and Earring Set

Add to the drama by wearing a pair of matching Black Akoya Pearl Earrings. Go big, or keep them smaller-sized to recreate this daintier look. The 6.5-7.0mm Black Akoya Necklace and matching Earring Set should do the trick!

Black Akoya Pearl Double-Strand Necklace

Go heavy on the drama by wearing two necklaces to create a Double Strand Black Akoya Pearl Necklace look. Worn business-chic with a white blazer is both eye-catching and incredibly modern!

Black Akoya Pearl Earrings

Go Boho chic with a pair of Black Akoya Tin Cup Dangle Earrings. We love the movement, swing and length (not too long though!) of these dark cluster earrings.

Black Akoya Pearl Necklaces

OR get multiple strands of these relatively inexpensive pearls and knot them together for a bold, chunky style.

While this necklace in particular is composed of faux black pearls, this look can easily be pulled off by layering multiple strands of Black Akoya pearls in various sizes to recreate this look.

Black and White Akoya Pearl Necklace

This is a wild, dramatic take: go bold by knotting a strand of White Akoya and Black Akoya pearls together!

Honestly, the bigger the better to recreate this eye-catching styling - I'm guessing this used pearls in the 8.0-9.0mm range and probably start with a 35-Inch Opera Length.

Long Black Akoya Pearl Necklace

Speaking of Opera Length Pearl Necklaces, this 36-Inch strand is a perfect way to play around with different pearl necklace looks without spending a fortune. What I love about the Opera Length (and longer!) strands is that they can be worn long and loose, doubled up, tripled (if you have the length for it) or layered with other pearls and chains for a funky, artistic look.

Black Pearl Tin Cup Necklace

While we're on the subject of layering, check out this Black Akoya Pearl Tin Cup Necklace. Worn by itself for a minimalist look, or layered with longer chains, pendants and strands of pearls, the simple Tin Cup is a heavy hitter!

We also offer a matching Tin Cup Bracelet should you decide you gotta have a full set. ;)

That's it for me this week! Believe it or not, photos of people rocking Black Akoya pearls are a lot harder to come by than you'd suspect ... especially considering how cool these pearls actually are.

What do you think? Would you rock some Black Akoya pearls?

Until next week ...

XO,

Ashley M.
