That's really interesting, I never knew that! I learn something new everyday. I personally like the blackish-blue hughes since my favorite color is blue. They are so pretty when the light hits them at different angles and each angle is a little surprise of different colors.

I think those pearls are stunning on her too. Perhaps one day I can have a beautiful necklace of pearls draped around my neck too. Thank you for sharing!

Yes, Akoya pearls show age much less if they are higher quality and are taken care of. Also, no matter how affordable you may say they can be, they are much more expensive than buying a perfectly matched strand from the beginning. It is not affordable over the long-term. We don't discourage customers from doing add-a-pearl necklaces as we do sell them per request. It is a lovely sentiment and very popular. We just want our customers to be aware of their options. Consumer advocacy and customer education is very important to us.

Although what you say is somewhat accurate – I disagree with the aging of Akoya AAA quality pearls because the nacre is so thick as they take years to cultivate. It is true they do age with time as does everything but ten years is a very accelerated time frame. The idea of add-a-pearl fills the niche present for any number of gift givers to the recipient for a number of reasons and current versions are much more in tune to today’s world. As well as adopting to these times our add a pearl has these attributes making it still a favorite among our customers.

1. Today’s version of Add a Pearl also comes in a uniform pearl so that the end result is not a graduated necklace but the same, as you would get in a full strand.

2. If the giver chooses to give an inch at a time twice a year or more the necklace is completed long before the child reaches adolescence.

3. Using the Princesse Legacy collection add a pearl the pearls are not strung on a chain but instead pure silk so as not to damage the hole drilled through the pearl.

4. A large amount of my customers purchase all 18” at once leaving a lasting indelible memory for the child even after the giver is gone.

5. We cover most postage costs for restringing each time the owner chooses to add on to the necklace, usually that is every three years.

6. To purchase a strand of this quality Akoya would be well into the thousands.
Most people add on twice to three times a year making it very affordable.
