The Blue Nine - Sketch to the Real Thing

We were contacted last October about building a very special pendant that has since been named The Blue Nine.

Consisting of solid 14K yellow gold, three Akoya pearls (1 black 6.5-7.0mm and 2 white 6.0-6.5mm pearls) and a single .01ct diamond accent, this little treasure measures about 1 1/4-inches long by 1/3-inches wide, and is a true one of a kind design from the sketch to cast to mounting.

Tahitian and Diamond Rondelle Necklace

We finished an absolutely stunning 20-Inch Blue-Green Tahitian pearl necklace today, accented with 6 pieces of 14K yellow gold and diamond rondelles, and I just had to post a picture of it to show off to all our readers. The pearls graduate from about 8.0mm up to 10.7mm in the center, and we’ve highlighted the gorgeous and highly iridescent 3 middle pearls between two of the rondelles, moving out into 5 pearl intervals and finishing the necklace off with a matching high-polish 14K yellow gold clasp.

I think the results are very lovely- rich, highly saturated colors, bright sharp luster and diamonds sparkling throughout- and all for less than $2,600.00!

 

Well, it’s nearly summer- traditionally a slow time for us in the jewelry industry, but a time of year that I look forward to every year, as this is the period when you start seeing a serious uptick in Custom Design commissions, when we get to break out the colored pencils, conte and watercolors and start letting our creative sides come out to play. The latest finished custom piece is a fun twist on our Tin Cup Necklace selections- I may in fact, decide to keep this piece on permanent offer in various colors depending on the response it gets…

JW has commissioned this very special necklace as an anniversary gift for his wife, and it features 13 gem quality Freshwater pearls in White and intense Pink colors, representing her children and grandchildren in alternating sequences, each measuring 9.0-9.5mm! Hand wire-wrapped into an 18-inch 14K Yellow Gold chain and finished with an easy to handle solid-gold lobster clasp, this Tin Cup necklace turned out extremely beautifully, under budget! Yes! Luscious Pink and White Freshwater Pearl Tin Cup

I am hoping that we’ll be able to have long pearl rope necklaces starting at 56-inches featured regularly very soon, but in the meantime: Enjoy!!

 

I haven’t posted any custom work in a long time, but I’ve finally finished a very special project that has been in the works for awhile and I thought it would be fun to share the results. Presenting the Freshwater Cluster Necklace! Ta Daa! We hand-selected, drilled and mounted 30 white Freshwater Pearls- AAA Quality of course- ranging from 6.0mm up to 9.0mm. Each pearl was hand-stationed on the 18-Inch open-link chain with solid 14KY jump-rings which cut down on labor (no soldering) and has an added bonus: she can customize the placement of each pearl on the chain herself should she desire to do so at a later time. Pretty neat, huh?

 

Also later on down the road when she’s ready it will be easy to send the necklace back to us to add more pearls- mostly 8.0-9.0mms, with some 7.0-8.0mms mixed in- to make the design appear absolutely bursting with pearls! I hope you all enjoy the photo- I tried to post both the original sketches I did (complete with notes) as well as the finished piece, but alas, I am tech savvy, but not that tech savvy! 

                                                  

It was this chain of proteins that led to a “Eureka!” moment for Linda Burke and Steven Greene; they decided to contact a pearl company (Us!) to see if they could have a very special bracelet made that symbolized the 15 white (known) proteins and 5 black (unknown) proteins using Freshwater pearls. The bracelet below is the result of their brilliant idea and our collaborative efforts, and can be found on their website: atypicalhus.org. The black and white Freshwater pearl bracelets have a 14K Yellow Gold Filigree Disc clasp and a laser-engraved 14K Gold charm inscribed with aHUS. The charm bracelets retail for $295.00 each and the proceeds go directly to funding research for a cure for aHUS, and we’d like to take a moment to urge everyone to follow the link to the atypicalhus.org website and either purchase a bracelet or donate today to help Mrs. Burke and Mr. Greene in their search for a cure.

                                                        

                                                                                                                                      

Summer is nearly here, and with it- Wedding Season! I know, I know- brides get married all the time, but with the endless blue summer skies, greenery, flowers and sunshine, the summer months always seem so… perfect for tying the knot. The latest custom design piece pictured below was dreamt up by one of our lovely brides to be (in June- congratulations, Mary!), and it turned out so lovely that I’d thought I’d share with you. The double-strand pearl bracelet consists of our gorgeous Elite Collection Freshwater pearls, 7.0-8.0mm, White with a Subtle Ivory Overtone and very crisp, sharp luster; she chose to finish the bracelet using our Diamond Double Figure Eight clasp in 18K Gold, which I think lends a very Old-World, Victorian-era feel to the whole piece.
