Is shipping free?

Yes, shipping is free on all orders shipping within the USA.

What is the best necklace length?

Our most popular necklace length is the 18-inch, Princess-length necklace- the pearls will rest about 1 to 1.5-inches below the hollow of her throat on an average-sized woman (5’2”-5’7” 115-160lbs). A more formal look would be the 16-inch Choker-length necklace which will gently surround the base of her throat, with the pearls resting just below the collarbone.

What is the best overtone?

Choosing an overtone is more about personal taste generally, but our most popular overtone is Silver which is closest a true, bright white, followed by Rose which offers pale to deep pink hues and then Cream, which has a touch of French Vanilla color. All of them are beautiful!

Which overtone will look best with my skin tone (fair, brown hair, brown eyes)?

Women with dark hair and/or dark complexions look fantastic with a Silver overtone, as the whiteness of the pearl contrasts with the darker colors, making the pearls appear larger and brighter than they really are. Rose overtones look wonderful on blondes and women with fair skin tones; the pearls will warm up against the skin and golden highlights of her hair and sparkle even more brightly! Cream overtones are fantastic for redheads, ladies with pink undertones in their complexion and mature women with silver hair as the “French Vanilla” tints compliment the warmer tones of their skin and hair.

I don’t see the necklace length I want- can I get a 17-inch necklace?

Yes! We can create a necklace of any length-17-inches, 19-inches, 21-inches, even 100-inches if you want, so feel free to contact us anytime for a custom quote! Email service@purepearls.com or call us directly at 1-800-762-0977.

Where do the Akoya pearls come from?

Saltwater Akoya pearls are cultured in both China and Japan. Previously we would only buy the finest pearls from each harvest from either country, as they were identical in quality, luster and color. The larger sizes, 7.5-8.0mm and up are exclusively Japanese in origin, and the smaller sizes were mostly Chinese. However due to quality and pricing issues, our smaller sizes have been entirely Japanese pearls stock.

Should I choose white gold or yellow gold?

That depends entirely on personal taste and style! However, a good rule of thumb to follow is if you don’t know which gold color to choose, try and match her wedding ring or the jewelry that she wears most often. Yellow gold will “warm up” a pearl and deepen and intensify its luster. White gold will “cool down” a pearl’s appearance- it will boost its bright white hue and enhance the icy undertones of blue and green. Traditionally, our black Akoya are paired with white gold findings, although yellow gold is a unique and beautiful choice for those looking for something different!

Are these Akoya pearls cultured or natural?

All of our pearls are cultured pearls, meaning that the oysters have had human assistance in getting nacre production started. A wild or natural pearl, forms without any human intervention. Usually it is a parasite or bit of organic material that gets lodged within the oyster’s soft body and irritates the animal into secreting nacre in order to smooth over the invader.

Are these colors natural?

The majority of white cultured Akoya pearls go through a process called “bleaching and pinking” after harvest. The pearls often have a slight to strong greenish/greyish tinge that many find traditionalists unattractive, so the pearls are submerged in a hydrogen peroxide solution and bombarded with UV rays for about a week or so. They are then dried and re-submerged in a light pink solution which gives them their iridescent Rosy hues. The solution penetrates all of the nacre layers and is a permanent treatment. The bleaching and pinking is done on so many of the Akoya pearls (and has been done for so long) it is regarded as a standard treatment, and is not often disclosed on gemological or retail appraisals.

Hello, Every time I try to order something the order says to choose your overtone. When I click on it the only thing I can do is view the options. It will not let me choose anything, simply look at the options. Is something wrong with the site? Thanks,

Hi There! You should be able to select your preferred pearl overtone by clicking on the small radio button located just above the overtone sample pictures in the "Choose Your Overtone" box. The pearl pictures as well as the "Help Me Choose" link will open a new window that will give you larger views of your overtone choices, but will not allow you to make a selection- only the radio buttons located above the sample picture can be selected. Hope this helps!

Do you ship to he UK and if so is there an extra charge for this?

Thank you for your interest in PurePearls.com! We absolutely ship to the UK.We offer two International Shipping options : FedEx International and USPS Global Priority.

FedEx International is a flat rate $45.00 USD Delivery service. Estimated time for delivery is typically 2-4 Business Days. Tracking on these packages is stellar, with up to your doorstep capabilities, and we highly recommend (and even insist) on FedEx Int’l for high value or one-of-a-kind items such as Tahitian Pearl Necklaces.

USPS Global Priority is our less-expensive, slower delivery option. We charge a flat rate of $26.00 USD, and delivery times range to 2-4 Business Weeks. International customers that aren’t in a hurry, or are ordering less expensive items are free to use this service. Tracking capabilities are not as detailed or up to the minute as FedEx, fyi.

All International customers are responsible for their own Duties and VAT fees, assessed by their country's Customs Offices. Customs may impose a delay on any package's arrival for further inspection, so please make sure to keep yourself available to answer any questions via phone to ensure quick inspection and delivery. PLEASE NOTE: Refused or missed packages will be returned directly to Pure, and any return delivery fees and/or fees assessed by FedEx or the Customs Office will be deducted from the total refund due you.

To calculate the estimated total cost of any Duties or VAT due upon arrival, you can use dutycalculator.com. All values are estimated and based upon the total amount of the pearls, shipping costs and any insurance you or we decide to place upon the package, so total amounts can change. We are not responsible for changes to the total amount due upon your package's arrival in your country.

The necklace in the picture is the one customer will receive.

Hi There- For Tahitian, Sea of Cortez and South Sea pearl necklaces, the answer is yes. Each necklace is 100% a unique individual, and the pearls in the picture are the ones you will receive. Once that pearl necklace has been sold, it is gone for good. We do not offer duplicates or "close enough" pearl necklaces in these pearl types; multiple quantities should not be ordered for any of these. For our Akoya and Freshwater pearl selections, we feature a "stock photo" of a pearl necklace in the correct size that comes from our vault and has been strung here in house, but has since been sold. However, it should be noted that ALL of the pearls featured on our site are real, genuine pearls that are or were made by us and came from our vaults.

I would prefer a chain other than a box- style. Is that possible?

Hi There! Yes, we do have other chain styles available, but they are considered an upgrade and will cost additional money and/or time to obtain from our suppliers. Please contact ashley@purepearls.com for additional options, pictures and prices.

Are your pearl necklaces double knotted, and what material do you use?

Hi There! Yes, all of our pearl necklaces and bracelets are individually double-knotted by hand on matching silk, to order. We do not string any of our pearls until your order is placed, in case you have any special requests for us - that way, your pearls are as personalized as possible. We also employ the "french wire wrapping" technique for the final connection of the strand to the clasp, meaning that the final loop is carefully wire-wrapped with 14K gold wire to protect the silk, and then attached to the clasp.

What does princess mean

The term "princess" is used to denote a specific pearl necklace length, ranging from 17 to 19-inches total. It is the most popular and versatile necklace length in the world, and is considered to be the modern classic. Generally the princess length pearl necklace will come to rest about 1 to 1.5-inches below the hollow of the throat. Please note that total necklace length includes knotting and clasp.

The most popular necklace lengths are: 16-inch Choker, 18-inch Princess, 22-inch Matinee, 36-inch Opera, 54-inch Rope, 100-inch Endless Rope. Total necklace length measurements can vary by pearl type. For instance on our website, Freshwater pearl princess length necklaces measure 17.5-inches, and Akoya pearl princess length necklaces measure 18-inches in total length - this is due to varying international farming and sorting standards. Additionally, please allow up to 0.5-inch variations in total finished necklace lengths; this is completely natural and due to the actual size variations of the pearls in each strand. We do our absolute best to make sure every necklace measures as closely as possible to the maximum total length, but again, natural variations in actual pearl size may cause some necklaces to be slightly over or under stated approximate lengths.

To measure your pearl necklace on your own, stretch out the pearls end to end on a flat surface. Begin measuring at the clasp, and end at the very last pearl. Be sure not to include the clasps' hook or tab closure mechanism, as this locks inside the body of the clasp, and does not contribute any additional length. My fiance has dark hair (auburn) and pale skin. Which hue would be best for her, the silver or rose? She wears white gold, never yellow. Thanks, Jon

Hi There - My recommendation would be to go for the Silver overtone, which is closest to a true, bright white hue, especially if she never wears yellow gold, only white. The brightness of the pearls will contrast with her dark hair color, appearing brighter and whiter. In addition, her other white gold accessories will emphasize the "cool" subtle blue and greenish undertones of the pearls, which will help them appear even whiter. I hope this helps!
